AS YOU READ this, the January blues will be in full swing, only this time you’ll be in an entirely new decade. But I’m writing it

at the back end of 2019, a couple of days before Christmas, thinking about the year – and decade – we’ve just had in LEGO.

Of course, we’ve already celebrated the 2010s in the brick, but our rundown of the decades best came before the LEGO Group unveiled 76139 1989 Batmobile. To make up for missing it off our list, we’ve dedicated this month’s front cover to the impressively imposing ride, which totally suits LEGO Batman’s mantra of the only building in black (and very, very dark grey). Head further into these pages for our in-depth review of the mammoth DC set, alongside a chat with its designer.

If superheroes aren’t your thing, don’t fret: we’ve also taken a deep dive into Speed Champions’ revamped format on page 30, caught up with Will Arnett ahead of LEGO MASTERS USA on page 54, and kicked off a huge Mod Squad project to give

your Imperial Star Destroyer the interior it sorely needs on page 74.

All this is to say that even while we’re celebrating the past, we’re also looking to the future in this issue and beyond. Here's to the new roaring ’20s.
